Dakota was an all star when it came to being walked!

It is with profound shock, disbelief, and broken hearts that we report the untimely passing of one of our beloved ponies, Dakota.
Early the morning of June 1 we noticed she appeared disinterested in her grain and symptoms indicated she was experiencing some abdominal
pain. We summoned the vet and he responded to evaluate her condition. Suspecting she was constipated, we walked her off and on throughout
the day after she was given some pain medication. By Friday afternoon, Dakota had seemingly improved, including having normal bowel activity.
The vet's evening visit confirmed that she appeared to be out of the woods and was headed towards recovery. However, during morning chores the next day,
Dakota was again displaying symptoms of abdominal issues.

The vet returned and chose to intubate Dakota and introduced a laxative and
mineral oil directly into her belly. He also administered intravenous fluids and electrolytes. He cautioned us that if these measures did
not resume normal digestive function, Dakota was in serious trouble. The remainder of the day showed no response to the various treatments
that continued throughout the afternoon and into the early evening. A return visit from the vet confirmed our worst fears, he suspected
Dakota had a twisted bowel, or other physical blockage of her digestive system. After considerable
discussion, we made the sad choice to allow Dakota to pass on before she really began to suffer further. Family and friends each had a chance
to say their good-byes and thank Dakota for all her work with our special clients. She passed peacefully and was interred on the Ranch property.

Words fail to convey the deep loss we have experienced by Dakota's death. She was the favorite pony of many visitors and
clients due to her gentle nature. Her patience and tolerance made her easily approachable and allowed her to provide
comfort to those in need. Click HERE

We feel blessed because we were able to have Dakota in our lives. The other ponies continue to search for her and
are uncharacteristically quiet. We know our clients, family and friends will continue to miss her for some time to come.
The Ranch environment teaches many life and death lessons which we hope will prepare our children for what their lives
may hold in store.
We extend our thanks to those who have reached out to us with your thoughts and prayers. We also thank Dr. Jamie Hotham for
his tireless efforts throughout the ordeal. His balance of skill, compassion, and respect for our need to mourn made the
situation the best it could be under the circumstances. We are eternally grateful to him.

Dakota was only ten, her passing was untimely. She will be deeply missed.
Dakota loved the attention she received and was always mild mannered. |
